Winning the lottery
No, I haven't won the lottery.
Like many people, I wish I could. However, its easy to sit back and think that it would solve all your problems and make life so much easier. Or will it bring more problems than you had before?
This article is a good read.
Its definitely something to make you think. To quote something from the article (about lottery winners) "Often they can keep the money and lose family and friends -- or lose the money and keep the family and friends -- or even lose the money and lose the family and friends." Think about how many people would come out of the woodwork to ask/beg you for money if you were the big winner? How easy would it be for you to say no? I know that if I won, I'd like to help out some family and friends. Then again, where is that line between helping out and a hand out? When do they start to become people that hang on until the money runs out? Not to mention the people out there that will find a way to sue you for your new found wealth.
Not that I'm anywhere near close to winning the lottery mind you. I have about as much of a chance as any other poor slob out there. If I did win though, and this is a BIG if. First thing I'd do would be to hire a good, note good, financial advisor. I'd recommend the same to anyone that won the lottery. Of course, things are easy to say until someone actually puts the money in front of your face.
