Futurama is Coming Back on a Straight to DVD Release

The past rumors have now come true, Futurama is back. An interview with Billy West confirms everything.

Note:

I always did like Futurama. I think it would have had the push behind it that the Simpsons did, it would have never got the axe. For its time the Simpsons were great. However, now the show just seems so old and tired to me now.

Judge Recognizes That Parents Aren't Liable For Kids RIAA Mis-Adventures

Via Techdirt.com
(http://techdirt.com/articles/20050921/0959248_F.shtml)
"...a judge has said that the liability cannot be placed on the parent, freaking out the RIAA, who withdrew the case, and then tried to have the judge open up another way to go after the kid -- and the judge refused."

Sweet, sweet victory!

Note:
The above comments are not mine. While, I'm no big fan of the RIAA. I'm not a big fan of illegal file sharing either. However, that's not what I find most shocking of this case.

Basically, what this judge just did in Michigan is say that this parent of a 13 year old child is not held responsible for their child's actions. That is such a complete load of bullshit. How will this child ever learn responsibility if not from the parent? It shouldn't take the world to raise YOUR child. You should be the one instilling virtues of what is right and wrong in your child's life.

Stuff like this just pisses me off.

List of Common and Bad Passwords

Huge list of commonly used, bad passwords. If you use any of these passwords, it may be a good idea to change it asap. Dictionary words make bad passwords!

Note:

I can honestly say that none of the passwords I use are on that list. However, one article I read came up with the recommendation that you use a full sentence for your passwords. Like a line from your favorite song, or song title or something. There are tons of utilities out there for cracking passwords. When you use Multiple words, it makes it harder I believe.

Teen Who Hacked Paris Hiltons Cell Phone Gets 11 Months In Jail!

The 17 year old teen from Massachusetts gets 11 months in jail for hacking Paris Hiltons' cell phone.

Note:

Firstly, I'm going to say that the bastard deserved what he got. Hacking someone's cell is a breech of that persons privacy. To me, thats just messed up.

Secondly, Paris Hilton is the most worthless pile of trash ever. To even call her a celebrity is a shame, and an insult to any celebrity anywhere. She got naked, is the daughter of a rich man. Does this mean she's a celebrity? Not in my book.

Lastly, someone posted this in a comment on digg.com in refference to this story. If this was a celebrity or a rich kid who had done this. The penalty wouldn't be so steep. So why are these people so special? Granted this was a hacking someone's cell phone case. But what about when its murder? Theft? Or any other various crimes?

There's just something wrong with the world.

Spam

Christ, I made a post, and within 5 minutes I had two comments posted. Both were spam for someone trying to make money on the internet. So, I'm forced to change the settings so that you have to use the word verification. I hope you blood sucking vampires die a slow painful death.

FEMA

FEMA - Federal Emergency Management Agency

So, I read an interesting article. Its on someone's blog, so I'm going to tell you right now, it might not be 100% true. I want to make this clear. There is enough of this, "Well I read it somewhere from so-and-so, so it must be true." bullshit out there.

So its been reported that FEMA, the agency set up to help you in times of emergencies turned help away from hurricane victims. An interesting read here, fire fighters from Houston set out to help the people of New Orleans. Only to be stopped by armed FEMA agents, tell them that they would not be allowed in until the area was "secured". I'm not sure how to look at this.

In the one hand, I'm sure they could argue that it was for the safety of the fire fighters. On the other hand, I think it has a lot to do with control. Least that's my take on the situation. I haven't found any news stories from any reputable news sources. Just an indy media site.

One thing I will urge anyone that reads this to do is, make up your own mind. I'm not here to win anyone over with my dribble. These two links make FEMA out to look pretty bad. Keep that in mind.
The tales just seemed to incredible to be that I had to post something.

Reasonable force

Its been brought to my attention by Ken Cook ( check out his blog, its a good read!) that maybe I didn't quite have all the facts right when posting my last post. Although, I can't seem to find anymore news coverage on the incident, so I can't comment on what happened to prompt the incident.

In light of what I do know now though. I must reconsider my thoughts on the matter. Do I think the parents are still sole to blame for the child's behavior? Hell yes. Do I think the officer used excessive force? Yesterday I was thinking no. However, I believe he may have gone a little over the edge. Now, granted, I couldn't tell you what the child did to prompt the officer to use the stun gun. I do think though that an officer should be able to overpower a 12 year old girl in just about any conflict. The only reason I say he "may" have gone overboard is due to not knowing the full story. There are any number of circumstances that could have happened. So, I'll try and remain objective.

Stun gun used on girl.

So, I saw this posted on the web. I can't recall where. I think it was John C Dvorak's blog.
In Ohio, there was a 12 year old girl who was fighting with another student. When the school administrators told the child to go to detention, she refused and argued with the school administrators. Most schools have police officers that are posted in schools to help with various D.A.R.E. programs etc. Anyhow, the cop even was called over to assist in taking this child to detention. The child argued with the police officer for 30 minutes. After which the officer made the decision to stun the child. It was in public and apparently the other children pointed and laughed.

While the news report is vague at best. So there is no idea what exactly the child was doing. However, this is a good thing that this happened. There was a reasonable request made of the child to go to detention. The child did not follow this request. Now, I bet this child will listen to authority, and these other kids that were standing around laughing ( which also helps teach that child a lesson) will think twice before disobeying authority.

I've talked about this before, but I blame the parents. Parents should be teaching their children that when someone in the position of authority tells them to do something, they should do it. Sure there are times when authority is wrong, and you shouldn't listen , but in a public school isn't one of them. Parents aren't being involved in their kids life enough to teach them what's going on. Instead the kids try and have this "I'm a badass attitude" that the parents should have slapped out of them years ago. I strongly believe that the rise in crime rates are in direct relation to all those people who are trying to teach parents and corporal punishment is wrong. My parents didn't overly beat me, but if I fucked up. I knew what was coming. So one way or the other, I learned right from wrong.

I could go on forever on this subject, but for now, I'm done.

edit: I also found the story on digg.

A complete outrage.

First off, I wish to say that I feel for those people down there in Louisiana and Mississippi . They have lost a lot. No amount of donations or disaster relief can replace the people or things that these people have lost. That being said, there is something I must address.

This took place a few days ago, and I didn't see the telethon.

Kanye West made some remarks, unscripted and totally his opinion, that should not have been made in that venue. It was a telethon to raise money to help the victims, and he chose that time to make a personal statement. He was paired with Mike Myers.
Here's how it went down. Transcript as posted on WashingtonPost.Com

Myers: The landscape of the city has changed dramatically, tragically and perhaps irreversibly. There is now over 25 feet of water where there was once city streets and thriving neighborhoods.

(Myers throws to West, who looked extremely nervous in his super-preppy designer rugby shirt and white pants, which is not like the arrogant West and which, in retrospect, should have been a tip-off.)

West: I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, "They're looting." You see a white family, it says, "They're looking for food." And, you know, it's been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I've tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help -- with the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off, as slow as possible. I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way -- and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us!

(West throws back to Myers, who is looking like a guy who stopped on the tarmac to tie his shoe and got hit in the back with the 8:30 to La Guardia.)

Myers: And subtle, but in many ways even more profoundly devastating, is the lasting damage to the survivors' will to rebuild and remain in the area. The destruction of the spirit of the people of southern Louisiana and Mississippi may end up being the most tragic loss of all.

(And, because Myers is apparently as dumb as his Alfalfa hair, he throws it back to West.)

West: George Bush doesn't care about black people!

(Back to Myers, now looking like the 8:30 to La Guardia turned around and caught him square between the eyes.)

Myers: Please call . . .

At which point, they were cut off and it was thrown back to Chris Tucker.

Now, I don't agree with the point Myers is dumb. I think he was more along the lines of in shock at the sheer ignorance of Kanye West. If Kanye has an issue with the media or George Bush and the media portrays black people that's fine. However, in that venue, it was not the place to voice it. There was a greater good to be done that day. I would personally like to see him down in those very flood waters for that. Its an outrage, and unforgivable. Those people down there need HELP, not some glorrified rap artist pushing his personal message. He wants to help. Tell him to sell off his esate and property to help those people out. I'll have more to say on this later once I've collected my thoughts, right now I'm just so pissed at this guy.

Great White sharks leaping several feet into the air.

"Sharks can launch themselves at least ten feet (three meters) into the air to catch prey, such as the seal shown in a shark's jaws above"

This is tech and science because of the decoys they invented to capture video, and because hardly anyone thought it was actually happening or even possible.

Note:
This is just insane. I couldn't imagine seeing this live and in person. I think we need a bigger boat....

Picasso now available at Costco

the Picasso painting Atelier De Cannes is now available at the Costco website. Amazing.

Note:
Although not a popular Picasso painting. It is none the less, a Picasso. Its sad to see something like this reduced to being sold on a website of a national retailer like Costco. You would think it would be at an auction house for artwork or something.

National Sex Offender Public Registry - U.S. only

Want to find out if your neighborhood is safe for your family to live in? Go here and read the list of various sex offenders that may live in your area. Sorry U.S. only. For informational purposes only, it's a crime to use this database to harass or otherwise target others.

Note:
Its always good to see who your neighbors are. Go over to borrow a cup of sugar and you might get more than you bargained for. As noted above, I want to ensure everyone who sees this understands.

Horrible movies.

Every now and again, its funny to watch a horribly made movie. Not for the entertainment value of the movie. Not because you think its good, but because of how cheesy it is, it makes you laugh. Granted, the makers of the film didn't intend for it to be funny. I'm sure a lot of work went into making the film, I'm sure someone spent a chunk of change to make it. So with that in mind, I give you,

Jolly Roger: Massacre at Cutter's Cove

This was pure crap from the get go. Now the plot wasn't bad actually. Pirate back from the dead to take vengeance upon the descendants of the founders of the town. The editing guy should have been shot for this one. You can tell where they edited a scene and picked up on it. I know the purpose of a movie is to suspend disbelief for a while. This on the other hand, took any kind of belief in anything, and just stomped it out like a lit cigarette. There was a scene that took place in a strip club, where this stripper was giving this dead pirate a lap dance. Further on in the scene had the club security confront said pirate. The pirate ripped off the guys arm and beat him to death with it, which was amusing in its own right. However, while all this is going on. We have a stripper on a pole in the background totally oblivious to anything that's going on.

All in all, I want that 80 minutes of my life back.
