This is crap
Okay, so I've been a bit neglectful of posting as of late. Just had things going on. However after reading THIS article, I'm prompted to vent.
So, in case you haven't heard, or read the article linked above. Ray Nagin is the mayor of New Orleans. He claims that the reason that the U.S. was hit by so many hurricanes was that "god was mad at the U.S.". Okay so the man if religious, that's not really all that bad. However, then he goes on to say this.
"It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans - the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans," the mayor said. "This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans."
How can any public official get away with saying this? For the record Ray Nagin is an african american. If good ole Ray was a white man, people would already be calling for his head as a racist. If he was a white guy and made the comment that it should be a "Wonderbread City". The press, and everyone from coast to coast would be calling for his head.
This is the problem that we keep facing in america. Things like this, that push us apart as people. Things like this do not help race relations. Sure everything should be equal and fair, but when people start spouting out about on race over another it promotes separation. For example, BET, Black Entertainment Television. Is there a white entertainment television? BET does nothing but promote the separation of the races by just even existing.
Again, if white people bring up anything remotely like this, we're labeled as racist. I assure you, I myself am not a racist. I just feel that as a people, we are all being labeled as black or white, or whatever have you. Instead, we are people. Nothing more, nothing less.
To get back on track here. New Orleans shouldn't be a "Chocolate City", since you're rebuilding it. Make it a center for diversity. Show everyone what PEOPLE, not blacks or whites, but PEOPLE, working together can do. However, that's something that will probably never happen.
