I'm a what?!

So, there was a guy outside of my work, begging people for money. I was asked to tell the guy that he can't do that. Such is life, so I went and talked to the guy. Here's how the conversation went down.

Me: Sir, I can't have you begging for money out here. I'm going to have to ask you to leave the property.

Him: I'm not begging for money, I have a job and I work for a living! I'm just trying to get some gas money so I can get home!

(note: sounds like begging for money doesn't it?)

Me: (still trying to be nice) Sir, if you keep on I'm going to have to call the police and have you removed from the property.

Him: (extremely pissed) You'd do something that fucked up?!

Me: (still being nice) Yessir, I would.

Him: (even more irritated that I'm being nice) And you call yourself an American?!?!

Me: (still nice) Yessir, I do

Him: (Furious by this point) You're not an American, you're a fucking nigger!!!!

Me: (nice as can be) Have a nice day now.
(note:by this point, I'm actually waving to the guy)

There was some audible bitching none of which I paid attention to, as I kept waving saving "bye bye now, have a good day.".

Now, I have no problem with people who are down on their luck. Generally, I end up giving in to homeless people and pitch them a few dollars when I see them. However, if the establishment that you are begging informs of asks you to leave. Then I guess its time to got out of there. Then there's the racial slur. Now what amuses me most about this is, I'm not black in the slightest. I couldn't be confused for a black guy if I wanted to. Not to mention the problem with him using the word to begin with. I was hoping beyond all hope that some people who had heard him yelling would have beat the ever loving crap out of this guy.

There are so many things wrong with that whole situation. First and foremost the racial slur. I wish people would get beyond things like that. People know its wrong to use it. So, I'm not going to dwell on that point. Its just wrong. Secondly, this is partly what's wrong with our country. I stopped this guy from trying to get something for nothing. If he needed money that bad, he sure as hell wasn't hurting enough to NOT buy a pack of smokes. As he was walking away, I noticed him light up a cigarette. So he got mad that he couldn't get a hand out. Thats what's wrong, too many people EXPECT a hand out. I don't mind helping people that are trying to help themselves, people who always want something for nothing.

I could go on more of a rant, but I think its best I cut it there. Hell chances are no one reads this anyway. Just a side note before I cut out though. I'm not saying don't help the homeless or less fortunate. I'm just saying we as a country, shouldn't be so quick to just fork over money. I myself have been guilty of that if you've read this. I may not have the solution, I just hope someone, somewhere does.
and I'm done....
